In my opinion, the end was good. I think that is the best end that it could have happened. Until the end, you don't know for sure what will pass, and this makes the story more interesting. It's a happy ending.
Another ending could be that the Phantom kill Raoul because he is very jealous of him. He can't bear that Christine love him and the only solution that he finds for be with her is killing Raoul. Then, he forced Christine to marry him.
